Become a Volunteer!

Find out how to join the Newport Fire Family...

Have you ever heard the sirens and watched the Big Red Truck go by and wondered what it would be like to be dressed in your bunker gear, heading to a house fire or a car accident? Have you ever witnessed an emergency, wanted to help, but you just didn't know what to do? You might be a volunteer firefighter who just hasn't joined us yet.

Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a great way to challenge yourself, learn valuable skills, be in the middle of the excitement and give back to the community. You'll be part of a dedicated team of professionals from all walks of life who choose to serve thier fellow citizens. From students to seniors, we are always looking for qualified applicants.

Volunteers attend a training drill every Wednesday night for two hours, and at least one 8-hour Saturday training session per year. You can be as active as you choose, and with over a thousand alarms a year, there are many opportunities to answer the call. In addition to drills, there are many other opportunites to learn skills, ranging from Emergency Medicine to specialized rope rescue to helicopter operations.

Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter is not for everyone. Honesty, a healthy sense of adventure, the ability to work as part of a team, the desire to push yourself to learn new skills and rise to meet physical challenges are all important aspects. But the comraderie and the chance to make a difference to your friend, neighbor, or a complete stranger in a time of need - these are the rewards of volunteering.

Call us at 265-9461 or stop by station 3200 at 245 NW 10th street to pick up an application. We'll be happy to explain the process, answer your questions, and extend to you our enthusiasm and commitment for the Fire Service. Join today!
