Newport Senior Center receives donated quilt for fundraising raffle
The Knotty Ladies, a circle of friends with a common interest in needle arts recently donated a hand made quilt to the Friends of the Newport Senior Center to be used for a fundraising raffle. The quilt blocks were pieced by Fran Whited, assembled into a whole by Toni Brodie, quilted by Jennifer Reinhart of I’m Sew Happy Quilting, bound by Marlene Westlind, Anne Hendrickson and Mary Gilliland and the fabrics for the border and backing were donated by Isabelle Blower. The quilt colors are forest greens, mauves and creams. It measures 96” x 104” and will fit either a queen or king size bed. The quilt is on display and tickets are available at the Newport Senior Center for $1.00 each. The drawing will be held on March 17th ,2012, National Quilters Day AND (St. Patrick’s Day). Proceeds from the raffle will be applied toward the Friends “Van Go” Project to raise funds for the purchase a transportation van. The Friends are also looking for community support with help in showcasing the quilt. If you can assist please call the Newport Senior Center at 265 9617. Knotty Ladies began meeting in the mid 1990’s after choosing the Senior Center as their meeting place. The group of 21 ladies who reside in Waldport, South Beach, Newport, Agate Beach, Toledo and Depoe Bay frequently make quilts and donate them to charitable causes. There are no membership requirements or annual dues and anyone who wishes to join the group is welcome to join them on Wednesdays.
