Adaptive Tai Chi
Join us weekly for an hour of adaptive Tai Chi. The main focus of this class is to increase strength and balance in your everyday life. Beginners and drop-ins welcome, and remember to wear loose clothing. A small monthly donation is appreciated. Class time is Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Performed together in a small circle, some exercise is done sittinig in a chair, and some standing next to a chair.
This evidence-based regime builds strength and flexibility for the body and mind. Beginners and drop-ins welcome. Please wear non-slip shoes.
This self-led class is free. Class times are Wednesday and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Better Bones & Balance
The Better Bones & Balance program is a community-based exercise program developed by researchers in the Bone Research Laboratory at Oregon State University. Research shows that targeted exercises later in life slows bone loss and improves strength and balance. These classes are safe for individuals with osteoporosis and osteopenia. Class times are Wednesday and Friday from 12:30-1:30pm.
Breath & Balance
This Arthritis Foundation instruction of evidence-based exercises is a gentle,
self-led class of movement exercises to help enhance and improve
overall wellness and balance. Key socialization activities supportive to good health are a plus. Wear comfortable shoes. This class is free, and beginners and
drop-ins are welcome. Class time is Wednesday and Friday from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
CIZE DANCE PARTY
Forget everything you dread about workouts. Because each Wednesday from 1:30-2:30 pm exercise won't be something you have to do, it will be something you want to do. Let loose as you learn the hottest professionally choreographed dance routines. You will be so focused on mastering the moves and having a total blast that you will forget you are actually working out! The dance moves are broken down step-by-step as you go, so you can learn them and repeat them until you are comfortable, put a sequence together, then dance a full routine.
Gentle Hatha Yoga
Starting on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 11:45am - 12:45pm, the Newport 60+ Activity Center will be offering a new Hatha Yoga Class. Hatha Yoga differs from other styles of yoga in that it focuses more on breathing and poses than meditation. This class will be led by Kelly Ardinger, and will teach you how to focus your thoughts and body to help relieve stress and promote relaxation. Other benefits of yoga can be increased mobility and flexibility of the joints, lowered blood pressure, increased lung capacity and breathing control and increased mood levels and concentration. Come restore your health and strength and see how it helps revive your spirits!!!
Movement for Parkinson's
Movement for Parkinson's combines yoga, tai-chi and dance to improve flexibility, strength, balance and overall coordination. With Parkinson's there is a reduction in the production of dopamine in the brain which means impulses don't travel as they should, often affecting gait, balance, and flexibility. Through movement and dance, dopamine production may be increased which could help slow down the progress of Parkinson's. Class time is Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Qigong is a very old practice from China, similar to Tai Chi, which uses simple, natural movements to reduce the effects of stress, support the immune system, and improve balance, focus and memory.
This is a beginner's class for all abilities, combining Qigong, Brain Gym,
and some basic warm-ups and stretching. Donations for space use only. Class time is Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Silver Sneakers Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a Silver Sneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises. Classes meet on Wednesday 10:45-11:45 am, and Saturday 10:00-11:00 am.
Silver Sneakers Classic
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. Class times are: Monday 10:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday 11:15-12:15 p.m
Silver Sneakers Yoga
This free class teaches us to focus our thoughts and bodies to help relieve stress and promote relaxation even after the class has ended. Yoga can be a very complete workout which increases flexibility and strength, while incorporating breathing techniques that can be both energizing and calming. Class time is Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Tai Chi may improve balance, increase strength, mobility, flexibility, increase psychological well-being, and reduce fall rates. Class time is Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
An easy-going workout for older adults, Zumba Gold combines simple-to-learn dance steps with infectious Latin rhythms and other world music. The result is a safe cardio workout which includes toning and stretching to help range-of-motion and flexibility. As students learn new dance routines, the heart muscle is conditioned and the brain is exercised. Come and join the party and dance your way to vibrant health! Class times are Monday & Friday 10:45 - 11:45 am.
