City of Newport Committees
Budget Committee
Oversees development of the city’s annual budget, conducts public hearings, and collaborates with staff to ensure responsible allocation of resources. Meets each spring before final Council adoption.
Library Advisory Committee
Advocates for public library service advise on policy, budget, and programming and support library development. Meets monthly to guide library administration in meeting community needs.
Parking Advisory Committee
Addresses parking challenges by evaluating demand, regulations, and enforcement strategies. Advises Council on garage plans, on-street parking, and payment systems in Newport’s core.
Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
Helps shape recreational programs, park planning, and facility improvements, ensuring local recreation resources meet community needs. Meets regularly to review master plans and program proposals.
Planning Commission
Conducts public hearings and reviews land use applications, zoning changes, and subdivision proposals, providing recommendations to the Council. Meets monthly to guide Newport’s growth and development.
Retirement Board of Trustees
Manages the retirement fund for municipal employees, overseeing investments, policy compliance, and funding status. Meets as needed to ensure the long-term financial health of the pension system.
Sister City Committee
Fosters international cultural and educational exchange between Newport and its sister city, Monbetsu, Japan. Plans visits, student exchanges, and cultural events regularly.
Urban Renewal Agency
Oversees implementation of urban renewal projects, financing, and economic redevelopment within designated zones. Meets regularly to review project proposals and budget allocations.
