  Ben is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is currently in schooling for his Nutritionist Certification through the same organization. Coming all the way from Mobile, Alabama, he personally focuses on functional strength and mobility; however, he has a broad background in athletics, with most of his experience being in powerlifting.  Before working for the Recreation Center, he made programs for bodybuilders, athletic instructors, powerlifters, as well as friends & family. Now, using both his personal and professional experience, he strives to make the Newport community as healthy as they can be.

Ready to take your fitness to the next level? The Newport Recreation Center is excited to announce the launch of personal training services. Customized workouts designed to help you reach your goals faster, safer, and smarter. Whether you’re just getting started, training for an event, or looking to break through a plateau, our certified personal trainers are here to guide and motivate you every step of the way. Choose from 30-minute or 60-minute sessions built around your lifestyle and a trainer who fits your needs and goals. Cardio & More   Beyond Zumba

This class is for all ages and fitness levels, however the ability to walk for a minimum of 10 minutes is required. The exercises will change each week to keep things interesting while still getting a full body workout.

Tuesdays: 8:00 - 9:00 am
An interactive upbeat class that challenges the body and the brain! Body conditioning and balance exercises using a variety of equipment.

Thursdays: 8:00 - 9:00 am
Fun and simple Step & Floor cardio intervals. Core conditioning using a variety of equipment to keep you entertained!

Fridays: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Get your blood pumping with an at-your-own-pace track circuit. This class will start in the Aerobic room for a light warmup and demonstration, then move up to the track for interval style training with some music to keep you motivated.

A fun dance fitness class teaching a variety of styles including Zumba, jazz, swing, Hip-hop, pop, house, and more. The class is an interval workout using fast and slow songs. Jenny shows you how to increase and decrease the level of difficulty and impact with each song. She also modifies or choreographs her routines, keeping them simple and fun. This is a great class for toning, balance, cardio, and stress relief AND is guaranteed to make you sweat! All levels are welcome.

Flex N' Stretch   Kickboxing

A fun, seated and standing class that includes cardio bursts, brain fitness exercises, muscle toning, and balance with 15 minutes of stretching at the end. This class is great for anyone wanting a multi-dimensional workout.

An invigorating workout using “kickbox-inspired” movements that will help tone all of those stubborn areas – arms, abs, glutes, back and thighs. Get your heartrate up, break a sweat and have fun doing it! This class is designed for all levels.

Consultation & Program Design   Tai Chi for Health

Set yourself up for success! Whether you are new to exercise in a gym or need some inspiration for a new and more challenging routine. Wherever you are in your journey to better health and fitness, you will benefit greatly from this. You will get a comprehensive personal consult, training on the equipment and a plan of action that has purpose and a positive outcome.

A consult and/or equipment training is approximately one hour.

Classes are based on the Tai Chi for Arthritis Program from the Sun style form, emphasizing joint-safe moves and Qigong breathing. This is sequential learning, and you will learn and memorize several movements. Practice will improve balance to minimize a fall, improve muscle strength, stress reduction, immune function, and mental focus.

Teen Fitness Training (Ages 12-14)    

This class is for all 12–14-year-olds who want to use the 2nd floor of the recreation center without parental supervision. Participants will go through an interactive class that will:

  • Teach them basic muscle groups, types of training, and proper form when using equipment or lifting
  • Demonstrate Fitness Center etiquette as well as the appropriate way to use/care for machines
  • Run through a light workout circuit to put what they have learned in to practice

Upon completing this class participants will receive a Teen Fit pass sticker that goes on their pass card.
