Bee City USA

The Newport Parks and Recreation Department is proud to be the host agency for Newport’s Bee City USA status!

Bee City USA

Newport adopted its Bee City Resolution on July 16, 2018 when the City Council adopted Resolution No. 3818

By adopting Resolution No. 3818, the City of Newport consents to fulfilling the requirements of being a Bee City, which are:

1. Establish and maintain a Bee City USA group charged with assembling and disseminating information regarding pollinator friendly habitat and policies. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is acting as our Bee City USA group.

2. Install and maintain at least one “Bee City USA” street sign in a prominent location.

3. Create and maintain hyperlinks on the Parks and Recreation website to the City’ Bee City USA group, the signed resolution, the Bee City USA website and summaries of the pollinator friendly activities undertaken by the City.

4. Commit to annually celebrate National Pollinator Week (third week of June) or some other appropriate event, proclamation or promotion.

With the alarming decline in pollinator numbers, we invite you to join us to raise awareness of the plight of our bee, bat, bird and butterfly populations. We ask you to commit to creating sustainable habitats for our pollinators, who are vital to feeding our planet.
