Preparation Tips

Get solar filter glasses-- Looking directly at the sun is unsafe. The only safe way to look at the eclipse is with solar filter glasses.

Newport residents may receive up to four pair of glasses at city hall, 169 SW Coast Highway, by Friday, Aug. 11 as supplies last.

Stay at home—Travel to, from and within Newport will be challenging, especially on the days immediately before and after Monday, Aug. 21.

Please plan to avoid travel on these days. Also avoid making medical or other appointments from Aug. 17 to Aug. 22.

Buy supplies ahead— Secure sufficient food, medicine, fuel and other necessities that will last from Thursday, Aug. 17 through Tuesday Aug. 22.

Procuring these supplies in advance minimizes trips during this very busy time.
