Native Plants We Love! Master Gardner session coming Feb. 14
This session is titled “Native Plants We Love!” and takes place on Saturday, February 14 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the McEntee Meeting Room of Newport Public Library at 35 NW Nye Street in Newport.
The public is invited to join Certified OSU Extension Service Master Gardeners Cathi Block, Kristi Kind, and Julie Roth-Carter for an informative and interactive session focused on the value and beauty of native plants. The session will begin with a clear definition of native plants and an overview of the many benefits they offer to home gardeners and local ecosystems. From there, the presenters will introduce approximately 20 native plants they have personally grown. They will discuss plant characteristics, preferred growing conditions, and their own real-world experiences — including both successes and challenges. The program is designed for those who are just beginning to add native plants into their landscapes, although experienced coastal gardeners are encouraged to attend. This will be an informal, conversational class and attendees are invited to share their own favorite native plants as well!
The speakers bring more than 40 years of combined gardening experience as members of the LCMGA, working in collaboration with and support of the OSU Extension Service Master Gardener™ Program. They bring practical knowledge and a deep appreciation for the plants that thrive naturally in our region.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration for this program is recommended. For more information and registration, please visit newportlibrary.org or contact Newport Public Library at 541-265-2153.
